Motherhood and Maternal Mental Health

Motherhood and Maternal Mental Health

Motherhood can be an unstoppable roller coaster of emotions and experiences. There’s no manual of instructions, there’s no way to have all the answers and get it right all the time. And yet, we expect ourselves to get it right every single day. We expect to be able to do everything and do it almost ‘perfectly’. We feel guilty when we can’t do it ‘all’ or when we ‘lose it’.

Transitioning to motherhood changes your life and who you are. It changes your perspective of the world, yourself, the present and the future. Becoming a mother makes you vulnerable and strong at the same time. Yet, nobody talks about it.

Most moms who start therapy feel overwhelmed, with no time to accomplish things and take care of themselves. Sometimes they feel like they have too much in their plate and have no energy to deal with anything. Even when it matters so much for them.

Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you feel like you want to escape or you’re noticing that you complain a lot about feeling stressed, tired, and unfulfilled. Stuck in negativity and feeling overwhelmed and emotionally distant, you may feel like motherhood it’s too much. You may feel like motherhood is not what you were expecting.

This is when therapy can help. Helping mothers go through this transition and find a balance between who they are and who they want to be is one of my passions. Finding joy in the parenting journey again, even when sometimes can be overwhelming or challenging, is possible. You are doing the very best you can.

You are not alone in this. I’m here for you.

Sometimes mothers might feel like a failure for needing help. That couldn’t be further from the truth. It takes courage to become aware about what you are going through and ask for help. Many times people perceive a good mother as the one who takes care of everyone first and doesn’t think about herself. Thinking about yourself might be perceived sometimes as selfish.

I want you to know that taking care of yourself is taking care of the ones you love. If you are well, healthy and rested you have the energy to care for others. If you love yourself and take care of yourself, you can give that love, kindness and compassion to others. Especially your children and family.

Therapy can help you find balance and…
